Is there a particular reason why UOGateway server info displays 1 less player online than is sent from the server response?

I noticed that if server sends Clients=1, website shows 0 online. If server sends Clients=2, website shows 1 online. The same data sent to a different shard list service shows the correct amount of online players.

So a while back the domain expired.  It went to auction and I bid on it for a bit but eventually tapped out as I'm saving up for something IRL so didn't want to spend too much.  It sold at $1,265.00.   It then went for sale for $14,995 which I figured pretty much marked the end of an era.

Out of curiosity I went to it, and lo and behold, looks like Ryan and the team decided to start it back up.  I am not sure why they let it expire though.

It looks like a database save from when the site was tied to Demise, Hybrid, and the rest of the network and I tested several of my accounts from back in the day and they do work so pretty sure it's legit.

There is not much activity on the forum though and it's been open for a while now.   I feel now that everyone moved to ServUO the ship has probably sailed, but good on them for starting back up I guess.

Figured I'd share.

The US now requires Google to force non US residents to pay taxes which I think is absurd so I decided to just pull off all the Adsense ads.   (who does not use an adblocker these days, so you probably won't notice anything different anyway... :P )

At some point I want to run ads myself that way I'm not relying on a 3rd party but for now enjoy the site ad free.  When I do run my own ads I will be sure to keep them non intrusive and they also will not do any of the spying crap that Google does.  I've been meaning to do this for a long time anyway as I really don't like this age of everything spying on you, so I was a bit of a hypocrite to use the ads in first place.  This was the straw that broke the camel's back.

This is just a reminder that you should ensure that the email address you use for the forum and Uogateway is valid, and that you actually remember it. Ex: that it's not something random that you never use. This will be important in the near future as you will need it in order to recover your account after the forum migration. We will be migrating to a new platform and it will require a password reset as there is no way to migrate the hashed passwords over.

The new platform will also be setup a bit differently, in that your account will be managed from a separate account management system. The idea behind this is that the account will work for pretty much with any 3rd party system I setup, such as shard submissions.  That way everything will use same login, simpler for everyone.

This is a project that I procrastinated a ridiculous amount on, the goal is actually to get Iceteks and Anythingforums back online, two sites that I managed way before I even had UOG.

The goal of the new forum will be to act as an alternate place for general discussion. Social media is kind of taking over the forum world these days but it still can't hurt to keep the forum thing going, I still think it's superior. The timing is kind of good given the whole censorship stuff going on social media these days... but let's not go there eh.

Either way my goal is to try to make the transition as smooth as possible, as I don't want to turn into EA.

A few years back I had announced a migration project, which never really happened.  Well it will happen soon, so this is just a reminder of what to expect.

Basically this forum will be migrated to another forum, and it will require you to change your password and to have a valid email address as part of your account.

I don't have an exact time line but I absolutely want to get this done in the next month or so.  I have a nice stretch of time off coming up and I want to just drill through all what needs to be done and get it done once and for all. Been procrastinating too much haha.

Basically this project will just make my own life easier, but also create a forum community that will hopefully have a bit more traffic.  Rather than manage several small forums I want to manage one single more general one.

There appears to be an issue with the poller, it stopped around the 20th.  It was still running but not doing anything.

I killed and restarted it but it seems to be running much slower than it should.  I will keep an eye on it but just wanted to say that I'm aware of the issue.  Hoping it does not turn out to be anything major. 

The slowness may be due to fact that it has not ran in a very long time so it's checking even inactive shards. Waiting for connection time out slows things down and keeps all the threads busy.  Once it catches up it should be back to normal and allow 24 hours for graphs to make sense.

A good way to see if the poller is caught up is when you see a shard was last polled 300 seconds ago, it should go back to 0 in a short time after that. 

Edit: Alright then, not 10 minutes later it's already caught up.  The log seems to be moving slowly so it felt like it was getting stuck, but yeah looks like all is good now!   Just remember that graphs may not make sense for the next 24 hours as the old stats are pushed out of the graphing range.

Unfortunately there is not really a way around this without having a huge network of servers everywhere.  The ping is from Quebec so it will differ based on where shards are.  On the shard listing page it mentions this at the bottom.

The graph provides a good idea of overall stability, if the ping is constant it's good, if there are spikes it could mean a shard issue.

One thing I could possibly do at some point is rather than show the actual ping, I could keep a running average then show some kind of value that indicates if it's far or close to average.

Hello there :)

I think it would be beneficial to place a prominent message regarding ping. Many players see the ping to a server and decide to play based off of what Gateway is displaying. My server is located in California and shows a consistent ping of 185. Servers closer to UOGateway (I'm assuming is on the east coast) are showing much less. I don't believe the average player browsing understands how the ping is generated.
